Chiropractic is a holistic therapy. We are committed to viewing the person in their environment to provide effective treatment.
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic deals with the comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and rehabilitation of functional disorders and painful syndromes of the musculoskeletal system, along with their biomechanical and neurophysiological consequences.
It focuses on correcting segmental dysfunctions (blockages) in the spine or extremities (arms, legs, jaw joints). Various techniques are used to treat these dysfunctions, such as Gonstaed, Thompson, Activator, Diversified, and Flexion Distraction.
Over the past 10 years, I have completed additional training in functional neurology at the Carrick Institute (Amsterdam, London). The balance of brain function results in symmetrical muscle tone along the spine. By using chiropractic manipulation or neurological exercises, I can restore balance in functional disorders, which is particularly important for recurring complaints.
Why is balance important?
Balance is controlled by the eyes, proprioceptors (sensors in the joints), and the inner ear. This information goes to the cerebellum and vestibular system. When these organs are dysfunctional, asymmetrical spinal musculature develops, which can lead to scoliosis or other postural issues during growth.
What is Functional Neurology for Chiropractors?
Functional neurology for chiropractors improves neurological connections, restoring brain functions. This is done through non-invasive, scientifically supported therapies. Improvements in brain functions can be seen within days due to neuroplasticity, the brain's ability to learn at any age.
In recent years, I have devoted over 1000 hours to functional neurology training at the Carrick Institute (Amsterdam, London, Atlanta, and Orlando). Based on the results I have seen in the U.S., I am thoroughly convinced of the potential of functional neurology for chiropractors. Together with my brother, Dr. Thomas Schmid, we are the only chiropractors in Switzerland offering this treatment at my practice in Siders. I am convinced that functional neurology for chiropractors can improve the quality of life for countless patients and offer healthy individuals an optimal preventive option (e.g., against falls).
The treatment is based on two pillars:
- individual examination
- targeted, patient-specific treatment
Diagnostic Tests:
- health questionnaire
- comprehensive functional neurology examination
- electro-diagnostic examination (CAPS, VNG)
- examination of the autonomic nervous system on the tilt table
- neuro-cognitive examination
These examinations result in an individual treatment plan that is carried out in the practice in Siders and adjusted as necessary. The goal of this five-day intensive therapy is long-term progress and a clear improvement in the patient’s quality of life. The brain function therapies are based on proven principles of neuroplasticity (the brain’s learning ability).
