Prof. Dr. Mario Lachat is a cardiac and vascular surgeon specializing in (especially complex) aortic surgery, where he has made significant technical contributions to simplifying and enhancing the safety of open surgery. He is considered a Swiss and international pioneer in endovascular aortic surgery and is the inventor and co-developer of numerous endovascular prostheses. He also has one of the world’s most extensive experiences in minimally invasive endovascular treatment of the aortic arch.

Career

Prof. Dr. Mario Lachat was born in Lausanne and completed his medical studies at the University of Lausanne. He pursued his surgical career mainly at the University Hospital Zurich, where he trained as a general surgeon, then as a cardiac surgeon, and finally as a vascular surgeon. He has also spent time training and working at numerous international institutions (USA, Canada, Asia, Europe). For 14 years, he served as Deputy Director of the Clinic for Cardiac and Vascular Surgery and Head of Vascular Surgery at the University Hospital Zurich. He led academic vascular surgery there for 18 years.
