Services Overview

In the field of musculoskeletal medicine, we increasingly encounter colleagues with subspecializations, as it is hardly possible to keep up with the rapid developments in medicine without them. This is certainly unavoidable. These specializations are usually confined to organ systems and begin early in the training. In my view, traumatology is also a specialization that requires a correspondingly longer training period due to its complexity, which many young colleagues are no longer willing to invest in, thus remaining limited in scope. Only with this broad training can one acquire the necessary knowledge from adjacent disciplines and specialists. Furthermore, there are specifics and operative techniques that the organ specialist only touches upon briefly during their training, while the traumatologist perfects them and learns to apply them to various injuries. Therefore, I see the modern trauma surgeon not only as a technically well-trained surgeon but also as a team player and "caretaker" for the patient, who categorizes the injury or injuries within the overall picture and coordinates treatment with the family doctor.

In this regard, it may be necessary to involve specialists to achieve the best possible results. However, the mere operation, when required, is only one key to success. The primary treatment planning and subsequent rehabilitation, taking into account the individual private and professional profile, may be equally important and require a competent contact person in the traumatologist. This also applies to the growing group of older patients, who, like patients with tumor metastases, require a highly individualized treatment concept to maintain their independence in their usual environment for as long as possible or to regain it as quickly as possible. In this context, minimally invasive, multimodal/multidisciplinary, and conservative procedures that allow for early full weight-bearing are of great importance. In this sense, I aim to support my patients with trust.

Surgical Treatment

My surgical spectrum encompasses all bony and general traumatology as well as orthopedics and spinal surgery. For arthroscopic reconstructive procedures, such as in the shoulder and knee areas, I am happy to provide advice and collaborate with experienced specialists in this field.

Conservative Treatment

Not every injury requires surgery. However, even with non-operative procedures, close supervision, ongoing monitoring, and therapy coordination are essential. I am happy to support you in this and carry out the necessary bandaging and casting techniques.

Spine

Due to my extensive training in various therapy methods of spinal medicine, surgery is often indicated only at the end of the treatment chain, if at all. My treatment offerings also include manual medicine and infiltrations.

Hip and Pelvis

Over six years as the head of a university unit with special expertise, I have treated injuries and their consequences, including endoprosthetics of all difficulty levels. Treatment of the hip and pelvis has emerged as one of my focal points.

Bone Metastases

Metastases of the axial skeleton and spine can jeopardize stability and impair quality of life in addition to causing severe pain. In their treatment, the focus is on achieving immediate and full weight-bearing as well as a quick return to the familiar environment. For this, I predominantly rely on special minimally invasive procedures, always in close coordination with further cancer treatment.

Geriatric Traumatology

The treatment of injuries in older adults requires not only special conditions but also knowledge of particular techniques and implants. Through years of experience in geriatric traumatology, I have been able to deepen this expertise further.

Complicated Traumatological Wounds

Wound healing after injuries does not always proceed optimally. This often requires a lot of patience and perseverance from both patients and the treatment team. I gladly provide outpatient care and, if necessary, inpatient care using modern bandaging materials and techniques to ensure continuous treatment until healing is achieved.

Second Opinion and Reports

Second opinions can reduce uncertainties for patients and practitioners, especially in complicated cases. I am happy to provide you with a well-founded second opinion or report.
