Botulinum Toxin

Type A botulinum toxin is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. It reduces muscle activity responsible for wrinkles on the forehead and between the eyebrows (glabellar lines). Wrinkles are softened by muscle relaxation, with normal muscle activity resuming after the injections stop. The product is resorbable, and its effects are reversible. Initially used in ophthalmology for treating strabismus, botulinum toxin has since found applications in aesthetics.
